Biografia:
Fondato a Londra nel 1994, lo studio Michael Young dal 2006 ha la sua sede principale a Hong Kong.
Michael Young ha disegnato per i suoi clienti alcune icone intramontabili del design, che hanno ricevuto premi e sono esposte nei musei di tutto il mondo. La sua attività si concentra sulla combinazione del design contemporaneo con le competenze tecniche degli artigiani locali, in questo caso cinesi. Utilizzando a proprio favore la cooperazione con le realtà industriali della Cina, lo studio sta consolidando le relazioni tra designers e industrie locali, valorizzando nel processo le abilità produttive industriali dell’Asia. Lo studio concepisce il proprio lavoro non come Design ma come Arte Industriale, laddove tecniche produttive avanzate sono destinate alla sperimentazione di tipologie e di relazioni creative tra l’individuo e l’industria a prezzi contenuti. Lo studio opera a livello internazionale, con relazioni professionali in tutto il mondo.

The Michael Young Studio was founded in London in 1994 and incorporated in Hong Kong in 2006 by Michael Young. For its clients, the studio has designed icons that last a lifetime, have won awards and are exhibited in museums globally. The studio specialises in combining modern design with the technical expertise of the local craftspeople, who are based in this instance in China. Leveraging the momentum it has generated through collaborations with Chinese industrialists, the studio is consolidating the links between designers and local industries, exemplifying, in the process, the skills of Asian industry and manufacturing. The practice views its work not as Design but as Industrial Art, whereby advanced manufacturing techniques are deployed to experiment with typologies and with the creative relationships between individual and industry at affordable prices. The studio also maintains international relationships and works with clients globally.
