Biografia:
L’idea per Lagranja è nata su un’isola del Pacifico nell’estate 2001. Un anno dopo Gabriele Schiavon e Gerard Sanmartì fondano lo studio. Il solo stile riconoscibile è l’attitudine e l’energia che emanano i progetti: ottimisti, pieni di vitalità e di attenzione all’uomo. All’insegna di un design mai autoreferenziale e autocompiacente e di un’idea di progetto priva di barriere concettuali: eclettica e versatile, che si muove con positività tra generi e ambiti operativi diversi. Questa inclinazione ha portato Lagranja a confrontarsi e collaborare con alcuni dei più importanti marchi del design. Ne sono un esempio il porta biciclette prodotto da Santa & Cole, vincitore di molti premi, la lampada Uto per Foscarini, la sedia Ring per Gebrüder Thonet Vienna, il museo Espai Gaudí: The museum about life and works. Nel 2009 è concesso a Lagranja il prestigioso Premio Cittá Di Barcellona, che testimonia il ruolo di rilievo assunto dallo studio nel tessuto culturale e istituzionale della società Catalana.
Biography:
The idea for Lagranja came about on a Pacific island in the summer of 2001. A year later, in Barcelona, Gerard Sanmartí and Gabriele Schiavon set up the practice. The defining characteristic of their work is the attitude and energy that emanates from every design: optimism, vitality and a focus on people's needs. Their designs are never self-referential or self-satisfied – rather, the objective is to break down conceptual barriers through eclecticism and versatility, designing in ways that span different genres and operational environments. This approach has enabled Lagranja to work with many of the most prestigious names in the world of design. Among their most renowned designs are: the Key bicycle rack, manufactured by Santa & Cole, which has won several awards; the Uto lamp, manufactured by Foscarini; the Ring chair for Gebrüder Thonet Vienna; and the Espai Gaudí (a museum of Gaudí's life and work). In 2009, Lagranja was awarded the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona, which bears witness to the importance of the practice within the cultural and institutional fabric of Catalan society.
