Biografia:
Nato a Sanremo nel 1931, si è laureato nel 1957 in Ingegneria Aeronautica al Politecnico di Milano e in Ingegneria Missilistica alla Scuola Superiore di Ingegneria di Roma nel 1959. Dai primi anni Sessanta si dedica alla progettazione e alla produzione di apparecchi per l’Illuminazione, fondando con il designer Sergio Mazza Studio Artemide s.a.s., dal quale si svilupperà il Artemide Group di cui è fondatore, presidente e amministratore delegato. Si afferma come designer internazionale, partecipando, come uno degli ideatori, a Memphis. Con il Gruppo Artemide ottiene importanti riconoscimenti quali il Premio Compasso d’Oro alla Carriera e l’European Design Prize. Dal 1964 al 1984 è stato professore associato di Motori per Missili al Politecnico di Milano. È stato vice presidente dell’ADI e ha ricoperto numerose cariche nell’ambito di Assolombarda, Federmeccanica, Confindustria, Ente Autonomo Fiera di Milano e presso il Ministero per l’Università e la Ricerca.
Biography:
Ernesto Gismondi was born in Sanremo in 1931. In 1957, he was awarded a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, followed in 1959 by a degree in Missile Engineering from the Professional School of Engineering in Rome. Since the early '60s, he has focused on the design and production of lighting equipment, and was responsible for founding – together with designer Sergio Mazza – Studio Artemide S.a.s., from which Artemide Group was to develop. Gismondi is Artemide Group's President and CEO. He established his reputation as an international designer through his role as one of the creators of the Memphis Group. He has been showered with awards, including the Compasso d’Oro Award for Career Achievement and the European Design Prize. From 1964 to 1984, he served as Associate Professor at the Politecnico di Milano. He has served as Vice President of the ADI and has held several positions within the Lombardy Manufacturers' Association, Federmeccanica, Confindustria, the Ente Autonomo Fiera in Milan and the Ministry for Universities and Research.
