Biografia:
Cittadino svizzero, si laurea presso il Politecnico di Milano nel 1982. Fino al 1988 lavora presso lo studio di Mario Botta a Lugano. Da allora svolge la sua attività collaborando con aziende tra le quali Alias, Artemide, Desalto, Poliform, Ycami, B&B e Flou e progettando interni pubblici e privati tra cui quelli per gli uffici del Teatro alla Scala di Milano e allestimenti per esposizioni in Italia e all’estero. Nel 1997 vince il premio Design Preis Schweiz e nel 1998 il Compasso d’Oro. Realizza edifici privati tra cui le due torri a Cinisello Balsamo (1996) e l’edificio multipiano per residenza a Saronno (2008). Negli ultimi anni parallelamente ad una intensa attività didattica universitaria (Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio, Università di S.Marino, l’ISAID di Vicenza, ecc.) dedica molte energie all’approfondimento della materia attraverso scritti, studi e ricerca applicata, raccontati anche in eventi pubblici attraverso gli Esercizi Fisici e i Blumer&Friends.

Biography:
Swiss designer Riccardo Blumer graduated from the Politecnico di Milano in 1982. Until 1988, he worked at Mario Botta's studio in Lugano, and since then he has worked on a freelance basis for companies such as Alias, Artemide, Desalto, Poliform, Ycami, B&B and Flou. He has also designed interiors for public spaces and homes, including the offices of La Scala in Milan, as well as backs for exhibitions both in Italy and further afield. In 1997, he won the Design Preis Schweiz, followed in 1998 by the Compasso d’Oro award. He was responsible for the two towers at Cinisello Balsamo (1996) and for the multi-storey residential building in Saronno (2008). Over recent years, alongside a considerable amount of university lecturing (at the Mendrisio Architecture Academy, the University of San Marino and the ISAID in Vicenza, amongst other institutions), he has dedicated a great deal of energy to the study of materials through writings, analysis and applied research, the results of which have been unveiled at public events such as Esercizi Fisici and Blumer&Friends.
