Biografia:
Nato nel 1942, si è formato come gioielliere e industrial designer alla Gerrit Rietveld Academie di Amsterdam ed alla Konstfack Skolen di Stoccolma. I suoi progetti comprendono gioielli, accessori per la casa, elettrodomestici, mobili, interni, spazi pubblici e allestimenti di mostre. Ha lavorato e lavora perdiverse aziende e società tra cui: Polaroid, Artifort, Droog Design, Castelijn, HEMA, Royal VKB, ENO Studio.Ne1993 ha fondato con Renny Ramakers Droog Design, un marchio tedesco per prodotti di designers olandesi, del quale è stato art director fino all 2009. Bakker ha insegnato in diverse scuole tra cui la Delft University of Technology e la Design Academy di Eindhoven, dove è responsabile del Masters Department. Nel 1996 con Marijke Vallanzasca, Bakker ha creato la fondazione “Chi ha paura...?” per dimostrare che un gioiello è più di un semplice articolo di moda. Il lavoro di Bakker è presente in musei e collezioni private in tutto il mondo.
Biography:
Born in 1942, Gijs Bakker trained as a jewellery designer and industrial designer at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and the Konstfack Skolen in Stockholm. Bakker's designs encompass jewellery, home accessories and household appliances, furniture, interiors, public spaces and exhibitions. He has worked for numerous companies, including Polaroid, Artifort, Droog Design, Castelijn, HEMA, Royal VKB and ENO Studio. In 1993, together with Renny Ramakers, he founded Droog Design, a Dutch-based brand specialising in products by international designers, of which he remained Art Director until 2009. Bakker has taught at a number of schools, including the Delft University of Technology and the Eindhoven Design Academy, where he is now head of the Masters department. Together with Marijke Vallanzasca, he founded the ‘Chi ha paura...?’ Foundation in 1996, in order to demonstrate that a piece of jewellery can be more than a decorative fashion accessory. Bakker’s work is represented in international museums and private collections worldwide.
