Biografia:
Gae Aulenti dal 1956 esercita l'attività professionale a Milano occupandosi di progettazione architettonica, urbanistica, interior e industrial design, scenografia teatrale.
Come designer industriale ha lavorato per Zanotta, Martinelli Luce, iGuzzini, disegnando alcuni prodotti di successo tra cui la serie April (1963/1988), la Serie Locus Solus (1965), il Tavolo Festo (1970), il Tavolo da lavoro Cardine (1983), il Tavolo da gioco Briscolo (1985), la Serie Ufficio (1986) il sistema di illuminazione Cestello, studiato specificamente come sistema di illuminazione per esibizioni, che le servirà in molti dei suoi lavori di allestimento di musei. Fra i principali riconoscimenti, il titolo di Chevalier del la Legion d'Honneur (Parigi, 1987), Membro Onorario dell'American Institute of Architects - Hon. FAIA (1990), il titolo di Cavaliere di Gran Croce al merito della Repubblica Italiana (Roma, 1995).
Biography:
Since 1956, Gae Aulenti has been working in Milan as an architect, town planner, interior and industrial designer and stage designer. As a designer, she has worked for Zanotta, Martinelli Luce and iGuzzini, coming up with a number of highly successful products, including the April series (1963/1988), the Locus Solus series (1965), the Festo table (1970), the Cardine workbench (1983), the Briscolo card table (1985), the Ufficio series (1986) and the Cestello lighting system, which was created specifically as a lighting system for exhibitions and which Aulenti would go on to use in many of the exhibition backs she would put together over the years. The main awards bestowed upon her include: Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur (Paris, 1987), Honorary Fellowship of the American Institute of Architects – Hon. FAIA (1990) and Dame of the Great Cross of the Italian Republic (Rome, 1995).
